The study on Commercial use of LIS materials
(XYZ University, 2026-03-08) Sharma, Saket
This study examines the adoption and impact of digital library services in university libraries with special reference to academic institutions in India. The research investigates how digital resources, online databases, and institutional repositories support teaching, learning, and research activities of students and faculty members. The study also evaluates the effectiveness of library automation systems and information retrieval tools used for accessing electronic resources. A mixed-method research approach was adopted for the study. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and analysis of library usage statistics from selected university libraries. The findings reveal that digital library services significantly improve access to scholarly information, enhance research productivity, and support remote learning. However, challenges such as lack of user awareness, inadequate digital skills, limited infrastructure, and licensing restrictions affect the effective utilization of these services. The study highlights the importance of user training programs, improved digital infrastructure, and effective information literacy initiatives to maximize the benefits of digital library systems. It also emphasizes the role of librarians in facilitating access to electronic resources and guiding users in efficient information retrieval. The research concludes that strengthening digital library services and promoting open access initiatives can significantly enhance knowledge dissemination and academic research in higher education institutions.

Music and Early Language Acquisition
(Frontiers Media, 2012) Brandt, Anthony; Gebrian, Molly; Slevc, L. Robert
Language is typically viewed as fundamental to human intelligence. Music, while recognized as a human universal, is often treated as an ancillary ability - one dependent on or derivative of language. In contrast, we argue that it is more productive from a developmental perspective to describe spoken language as a special type of music. A review of existing studies presents a compelling case that musical hearing and ability is essential to language acquisition. In addition, we challenge the prevailing view that music cognition matures more slowly than language and is more difficult; instead, we argue that music learning matches the speed and effort of language acquisition. We conclude that music merits a central place in our understanding of human development.

The Moment in Rembrandt’s Night Watch
(GISI - UniTO, 2022) Manca, Joseph
Rembrandt van Rijn’s famous Night Watch is a complex painting and operates on many different levels. This article stresses both the narrative and the moral qualities of the painting, and looks at the interplay between art and philosophy, with a focus on the moment represented and how an incident plays out in a broadly ethical sense across the picture. The painting achieves a kind of unity through the representation of the musket blast, which disturbs or affects a good number of the figures in the scene. In addition, the lack of reaction to the shot on the part of the captain and lieutenant offers us a vivid image of military bravery and firm leadership: they remain focused on their duties, and carry out their tasks with stoical calm. The moment of the firing of the gun thus helps to explain both some of the figural action as well as offering an essential moral meaning of Rembrandt’s masterpiece.
