    Within the context of the modernization of Argentine theater in the early 20th century, the play Próspera by David Peña exemplifies the poetics of modern drama, specifically, the realist drama of ideas (or thesis drama). This article analyzes how Peña constructs the play’s thesis through key structural elements: the plot, surrogate characters, the title, and the metatext. To this end, we provide a theoretical characterization of the concept of the “thesis” in modern drama.
